How it all began
I am a Head of QA, quality consultant, software enthusiast, and someone who has always been interested in the connection between technology, people, and the way we build things.
My journey started more than 13 years ago with a background in development. Before that, I studied Alfa Informatica at the University of Groningen, a field that combined language, communication, logic, and information technology and later also Computer Science.
During my studies I worked with concepts like Prolog, context recognition, and processing information from sources such as Google before tools like modern translation systems became commonplace and with my second degree I focused more on learning how to develop software, build digital solutions, and work with areas like (clean) programming, databases, cybersecurity, and IT systems.
Looking back, many of those ideas feel surprisingly relevant today with the rise of AI, automation, and systems that need to understand more than just data.
My career
After starting my career as a full stack developer, my focus gradually shifted towards quality after I moved to London. I moved from writing software to improving the way software is created. This led me through roles as QA engineer, QA Lead, QA Manager/Quality Engineering Manager and eventually Head of QA, where I have worked on building quality practices, improving processes, and helping teams deliver better software with more confidence.
Over the years I have worked both as part of organizations and as a consultant. I am often brought in when companies want to improve their QA maturity, introduce automation, build frameworks from the ground up, or move towards a shift-left approach where quality becomes part of the entire development process instead of something added at the end.
What I do
My work goes beyond creating automated tests or choosing tools. I believe successful QA starts with listening, observing, and understanding the people, processes, challenges, and goals behind the work.
Every company is different, and every quality challenge requires a practical approach that fits the specific situation. I help organizations build effective quality strategies, coach QA and teams, and create environments where developers, testers, and stakeholders collaborate towards better outcomes through a balance of technology, processes, communication, and people.
The website
This website is a collection of the different things I create, build, and share. It is the home of my QA consultancy services, where I help organisations and/or people with quality improvement, automation, shift-left implementation, and QA coaching. It is also where I share blogs, experiences, ideas, and lessons learned from working in the QA world.
At the same time, this site is not only about work. It is also a place for experiments, creativity, and (less serious) side projects and maybe. Here you can find my esoteric programming language Bark, tools such as a risk assessment application, and creative work including art and merchandise created by myself and my wife.
